German manufacturer Huber Packaging Group has recently approved cider for use in mini kegs. Previously, every cider producer had to trial their product independently and decide whether or not there were any compatibility issues. This is because the SO2 content and pH of cider is very different to beer and may react when in contact with the food grade lacquer inside the mini kegs.
This was not ideal for a growing cider market. Cider drinkers are demanding the draught take home format. Therefore, Huber has conducted long and thorough trials and is now confident to add ‘Cider’ products into their specifications.
Alongside many different beer mini kegs and mini casks, Adnams first premium cider ‘Wild Wave’ is available in mini kegs.
The packaging has a bold design inspired by the refreshing Suffolk coastline. Wild Wave cider is ‘fermented with champagne and wine yeasts, Wild Wave is a bright, sparkling cider at 5% abv with flavours and aromas of fresh apples, mango and tropical fruit, elegantly balanced with a medium-dry-finish.’
Adnams recommends: ‘Serve at North Sea temperatures’. Luckily the mini keg is the ideal size to chill down in your fridge. A 5 litre mini keg takes up less room than a 12 pack (of 440ml cans).
